Hello PVI players and coaches!

My name is Tiina Booth and I am one of the coaches of the UMass men’s team, as well as the director of the National Ultimate Training Camp. Welcome to the Pioneer Valley Invitational and we hope you are ready for an amazing weekend of ultimate!

Your team will receive a NUTC disc on Saturday morning and each disc has our summer schedule written on it. Please use and share this disc with your team. We will also have a NUTC Hospitality Tent set up and please stop by to say hi, hang out with campers and counselors and enjoy some special gifts.

Please also share this link with your team and parents for more info about camp.

Best of luck this weekend and please stop by and say hi!

Dear Ultimate Community,

This summer we are celebrating the 18th Anniversary of the National Ultimate Training Camp in Amherst, Mass. Please share this list with your favorite high school team, youth player or aspiring ultimate player. And if you need further reasons for why everyone should attend NUTC at some point in their career, here they are:

18. For those who do not want to read any further, just watch this very short promo video. It will show you all you need to know.

17. Ex-campers and counselors have gone on to win every conceivable gold medal or championship or award on planet Earth. They also will be happy to write recommendations for any camper who wants to apply for our national teams.

MountHolyokeFields216. We play on the beautiful campus of Mount Holyoke College on spectacular lined and groomed fields. We also have access to lit turf fields every day and night.

15. Our counselors have been trained to balance drilling and lessons with LOTS of scrimmaging. The best way to learn ultimate is to play ultimate. The best way to learn ultimate is to learn it from the best teachers of the sport: NUTC counselors.

14. Our camp director Tiina Booth is one of the coaches of the UMass men’s ultimate team. They are consistently a nationally ranked team, and many of their players work at NUTC. She also writes regularly for Ultiworld and consults with other teams and athletes on improving their mental game. Learn from the best and you will play your best.

13. Our player packages are SWEET. VC Ultimate provides us with top-of-the-line jerseys and other gear. Other retailers will provide prizes too.

12. Campers can swim, also known as playing pooltimate, every day during rec hour. Our dorm at MHC is situated above a waterfall, three minutes from the field and two minutes from the huge Olympic-sized pool. Other rec hour activities are double disc court, disc golf, pitchnut, board games and, of course, taking a nap before dinner.

11. Mount Holyoke opened a new centrally located cafeteria this past fall. The atmosphere is great, and the food is more incredible.

10. You can buy a pair of Brute Squad shorts, UMass gear or any SWEET gear that the counselors have brought from around the U.S. Bring your own items to trade or sell too!

9. Camper/Counselor Game Under-the-Lights is followed by Make-Your-Own-Sundae Night. The ice cream takes away the sting.

8. Our counselors are not only the best teachers of the sport, but they will also serenade you at our weekly Talent Show. And show you how to body traverse. And teach you the song and dances for Pop-Si-Co.

7. The culmination of each week is an AMAZING all-camp tournament. Each team has at least two coaches and everyone gets a chance to see how they have improved in just a week!

6. After attending just one session of NUTC, you will see campers and counselors at every ultimate tournament you attend. We have players from all over the country, as well as from Europe and South America. This summer we expect campers from Germany, Canada and Senegal!

5. This year, we started our NUTC Ambassador Program. This group of eight campers from around the country promote NUTC on social media and in person. Ambassador Andrews writes, “NUTC is a perfect place to reach a goal that you have been working on. For my first week of NUTC, I made it my goal to improve my backhand. My counselor worked with me all week, and by the end of the week, I could backhand huck with full confidence.”

4. Here’s one more from Ambassador Romero: “At NUTC, I was welcomed with wide open arms and mentored to be as great as I could possibly ever aspire to be. The influence of NUTC’s morals of sportsmanship, passion, and compassion forever stick with me through all the fields and plays. I chose the best.”

3. We also started the Global Ultimate Training Camp this spring and sent Jimmy Mickle, Amber Sinicrope, Leila Tunnell and Russell Wallack to train the German National Teams for five days. They adapted curriculum they learned at NUTC, and their German liaison Stefan Rekitt wrote, “The four coaches impressed me with their working ethos and effort they put into the camp. Every night, they reviewed the day and prepared the next day for two hours or more…They were always patient with the campers and answered every question. The campers loved them and treated them more as friends than counselors. The way of teaching showed that NUTC was designed by a teacher and not just an ultimate player.” #gutcnation

2. All four GUTC counselors taught at NUTC, and three of the four started out as campers early in their ultimate careers. Once you graduate from NUTC, you will have other opportunities to develop as an ultimate player and coach. NUTCnation is everywhere.
