A message from Buffy and Mabel!
our ultimate HOME clinic!
our ultimate HOME will be running a clinic on Saturday!
From Heather Ann Brauer:
Ultimate promotes itself as an inclusive progressive sport. Do you think it’s living up to that ideal? In what ways is ultimate doing a good job? Where does it need improvement?
Come talk about these things and more with our ultimate HOME on Saturday from 3:45pm to 4:30pm outside of tournament central. HOME is a grassroots organization that seeks to make Ultimate a true home for everyone, regardless of how they identify. Join us to explore issues of identity, intent vs. impact, and to learn more about HOME!

An now a message from Tiina Booth!
Hello PVI players and coaches!
My name is Tiina Booth and I am one of the coaches of the UMass men’s team, as well as the director of the National Ultimate Training Camp. Welcome to the Pioneer Valley Invitational and we hope you are ready for an amazing weekend of ultimate!
Your team will receive a NUTC disc on Saturday morning and each disc has our summer schedule written on it. Please use and share this disc with your team. We will also have a NUTC Hospitality Tent set up and please stop by to say hi, hang out with campers and counselors and enjoy some special gifts.
Please also share this link with your team and parents for more info about camp.
Best of luck this weekend and please stop by and say hi!

Looking for girls pickup players!
This just in from Nolan, the Montpelier girls coach:
Hello fellow ultimate coaches!
The Montpelier girls ultimate program is really excited to have a JV and Varsity team for the first time this year! Unfortunately our JV team has had a few injuries this week and are close to savage for the Pioneer Valley Invitational. If you have any newer girls on your team that would like some extra playing time this weekend we would love to have them. Our team is a fun and welcoming bunch and would be psyched to have a couple extra subs.
Thank you!
You can contact Nolan at nolanbenoit12@gmail.com.
A note about the weather
As you may have noticed, there is some rain in the forecast this weekend.
We are keeping a very close eye on the forecast, for sure. We recommend you do the same.
Our fields drain exceptionally well and are in very solid condition, so unless the forecast gets much, much, much worse the event will not be impacted.
Teams may be wet during parts of the event, but the schedule will play out as planned.
What is forecast right now is not even remotely close to bad enough for us to cancel the event.
I will let you know via email/text the moment the weather even has any chance of impacting the schedule of the event. Right now it does not.
Also please note, there is no rain date. Well before we even get close to having to cancel the event, we’d modify the schedule.
It may be a wet weekend, but the event will happen.
See you soon!
Final Schedule & Food Info
The tournament schedule have now been finalized! Please look it over, in detail, and let Josh know ASAP if you have any questions. At this point the schedule will only be changed if MAJOR errors are found. Again, please make sure you look it over in detail!
The Saturday night dinner and social at Northampton HS is shaping up to be phenomenal! There will be fun and games outside, and a massive dinner and dance inside. Dinner is only for people that paid for a dinner ticket. That being said, anyone is welcome to join in on the social events!
The dinner is being made by The Black Sheep Deli and the menu is as follows:
- Garden salad
- Focaccia
- Mac & cheese
- Baked ziti with cheese
- Baked ziti with chicken – No dairy
- Mediterranean tofu
- Cookie & brownies
On Saturday each team will receive a team box containing 6 apples, 8 bananas, loaf of bread, pound of peanut butter, pound of Nutella, clamshell of baked brownie bites, big bag of pretzels, and a bag of Twizzlers. Teams will not receive another team box on Sunday.
The following food items will be available, for free, at tourney central: Sandwiches (PBJ nutella), bagels & cream cheese, apples, bananas, watermelon slices, lemonade, and gatorade.
Unfortunately there will very few, if any, food trucks on site during the event.
5/14/18 Update
It’s almost tournament time! Here’s where we stand:
1) Everyone must drive 15mph, or slower, on Island Pond Rd. This is the one and only road leading to the field entrance. We are very, very serious about this. Teams found to be speeding will be immediately ejected from the event.
2) Everyone must be mindful of the adjacent surroundings at the Oxbow. Please stay away from the Marina itself. Stay away from all boats. Do not swim in the river.
3) All teams must check in on Saturday morning at tournament central before their first game. The check in must be done by the official chaperone listed on the team roster. At check in, each team will need to:
- Show us their medical authorization forms unless they have previous been emailed to us.
- Submit a $100 check that will be returned at the end of the day on Sunday after your team has submitted their second spirit score sheet. (The Saturday spirit score sheet will be turned in on Saturday evening.) Checks should be made out to “Ultimate Good” and your team’s name should be listed in the memo field. Cash will not be accepted.
- Take care of any outstanding roster issues such as players that have not signed their waivers and/or paid their USAU dues.
3) Due to a team dropping this morning, the tournament schedule is not yet finalized. That being said, the schedule that is online right now is likely to be the final schedule, or very close to the final schedule. I am hoping to finalize the schedule by tomorrow evening.
4) If you have any team allergies that could impact what we put in your team box, please email Elliot and Christine. Please make sure you identify your team when you send your email. You can read about what we put in team boxes by default right here.
5) At this point all teams, including those that were on the wait list, have been sent an email connecting them with a host! If you did not receive your email, please check with the person on your team that filled out the Dinner, Housing, and Rostering confirmation form. If after speaking with that person you can’t find the email, please contact the PVI housing director, Tamar Fields. A few notes about tournament housing:
- Please make sure you contact your host! By default they are only providing floor space. You need to have a conversation with them if you’d like to ask for anything more than floor space. All showering is done at Northampton HS unless you arrange otherwise with your host. Make sure you ask your host if you’d like to use their kitchen.
- Bring your host a gift or two or three!
- Since all showering will be done a Northampton HS on Saturday evening, it may be helpful to bring shower gear, and a change of clothes, to your games on Saturday.
6) Tents must be set up at least 10 yards from any sideline. There will be a large area for tents north of field 4 and south of field 11. No gear is allowed to be placed within 3 yards of any sideline.
7) Please take a minute to look over your event roster. Please make sure your entire roster is listed and that you’ve removed any players that will not be attending. Teams found to be playing with an unrostered player will be immediately ejected.
